It really became so much more obvious to me when I wandered down the beach the other day and saw what had been washed up. I ranted a bit on facebook (click to read and see the things I suggested down the feed) and had such amazing response. Knowing others care and want to do something is awesome and keeps me motivated so thank you...
As I said in my post, I was really taken aback - and I know what was on my beach isn't anywhere near as bad as many places in the world. I'm lucky I live in a super clean country.
But that doesn't mean I can sit back and do nothing.
I am still part of the problem when I use more than I need and don't take that moment to stop and think about the consequences of my actions. All actions I do, can and do make a difference.
Not everyone can play a big role, but we all can play a role.
I wish I knew how to change systems and invent an ocean vacuum cleaner - I don't.... But I do know how to talk to others, share what I do - take my own bag, not put my tomatoes in a bag at the supermarket, carry my own cup to the coffee shop, a steel water bottle, turn the lights and taps off, think of the clothes I buy - do I really need them?.
I consider the Earth my big home - and how do we treat our homes....
Every piece of trash I pick up is for the Earth (she is our Mother after all) - to look after her the way she does me. And to stop other sentient beings being harmed by my careless actions.
And that brings me joy....
It would be great if it wasn't needed, but it is so I'll do whatever is possible.
I spent an hour on Sunday and an hour on Monday clearing the beach. I went there this evening, there's still some to do and I'll be there Friday morning to do more.
I am by no means perfect, I collect my plastic at home and am surprised how much I generate from food shopping - but right now I have few options. But I try in this and in other ways.
We can make a difference, we all can.
