Sorry I can’t do belly dancing or that funky rolling core thing - I’ve not learnt, but I think you’ll get the idea how versatile the belly button area is…
What about the "core"??
Abdominals, mid-section, 6-pack, stomach, belly, transverse, mid-section, mid-rift what else is that bit in our middle called???…
This blog is inspired because I just came back from a run, and as I was walking back I smiled at a woman who smiled back then stared at my belly…
Now I’m used to this, when I run I tend to wear a sports bra (shorts too) and no running top. I do it because I get hot, and also tops can chaff and well I don’t like it! It’s not to show off my fine physique! I have a feeling some of the looks I get are because of my tattoos which I forget I have, others because my boobs bounce in the bra - other times though is definitely an obvious look down at my mid-section….
We really do make a big deal out of flat bellies - the amount of adverts there are for “eat this and lose belly fat’ - “THE core workout for a 6 pack” - “avoid these fattening belly foods”..
When in history and fashion did it become the IN thing?
The pressure on both men and women leads to poor diet choices, ridiculous exercises, a dysfunctional mid-rift and organs that are held firm by muscles that need to relax…. Not a good way for the body to be - but it looks good; or does it?…
I’m not saying we ought to have rolls of fat, although some cultures see that as health and wealth - just, can we please drop the focus of the core being the ultimate part of our body?.
Feet are amazing - can we start a trend that we look after our feet?? They are unbelievably useful, and if our feet don’t work, well then we’re trouble - but it’s ok if they look bad; they’re hidden after all.
But it’s ok if our “core” doesn’t work optimally as long as it looks good…. Mmmmm odd.
I like having a somewhat more toned middle, I admit - I also like wine and chocolate so unlikely a 6-pack will appear on your screens shortly. I do know mine works pretty well in conjunction with the rest of me, my body is one big group of friends helping each other; they’re so cute!..
Thanks
